Adel was a German Shepherd that appeared in a short story called 'The Dog of Flames'

Adel was to become an Army Dog, but due to his mild temperament and fear of fire, he was given to Kōkichi Takuma as a companion dog. Adel loves Kōkichi Takuma dearly and feels pride just being with him along the journey.
Adel was taken away. Right when Adel was taken across a bridge, an American plane bombed the town, and the area was filled with flames. Adel was then locked inside of a barn with Hakuryū and many other dogs. When believing that Kōkichi and Torakichi were calling for his help, he tried to jump back to join his owners. Sadly his body was consumed by the fire.
