Gajō resembles a large pile of boulders from the exterior with tree branches sticking out from the gaps. It resides near the edge of a cliff overlooking a large running river. Gajou is also connected to a large, intricate cave system inside the cliff that is accessible through a tunnel underneath the stronghold.
In Ginga Densetsu Weed, the interior is shown have many intertwining passageways that leads to many rooms. The large and small gaps between the stones serves as windows where watchdogs can perch and keep watch.
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin Edit
After Akakabuto's defeat, Gajō became the heart and main base of the Ōu's army, who controls the entire Futago Pass. Due to this, it is often sought out by other enemies looking to claim the territory of Ōu.
Ginga Densetsu Weed Edit
After 14 years of peace, Gajō was overtaken by the monstrous mutant-dog, P4. As he began terrorizing the areas in Ōu, P4 then attacked and massacred the Ōu soldiers defending Gajō, claiming it as his hideout. It wasn't until his death that the steadily dwindling Ōu army regain control.
However, with little soldiers to defend their home, Gajō was quickly occupied by Hōgen's brother, Genba, after a violent fight with Chūtora's four sons that resulted in the death of three of them. Hogen arrived later to Gajō to rule over its territories until he was bested by Weed and the rest of the Ōu army, who reclaimed it as their paradise once more.
Gajō was destroyed by humans in Ginga Densetsu Weed manga since the humans wanted to end Hōgen, but in the anime, Gajō is left standing, since no humans are shown.
